The Wales Portrait Award 2008 Mike Knowles and Emma Knowles were both shortlisted in the final 52 selected portraits for the 2008 touring exhibition. Emma Knowles' portrait of Rebecca, and Mike Knowles' self portrait will be exhibited along with 50 other artists' work. The Wales Portrait Award is a new Biennial designed to increase the awareness of portraiture as a fine art discipline. We are proud to have two artists represented in the final 52. Little has been done to encourage portraiture in Wales since the late 19th century and this award is designed to redeem this gap in provision and to restore this important art form to its rightful place in a modern Wales. This is an inclusive initiative encouraging entries of original paintings from artists of any age living, working or born in Wales. The competition is also open to artists of any nationality whose work depicts a Welsh subject . The exhibition will be selected by a panel of judges. This is a consortia project organised by Denbighshire County Council with Bodelwyddan Castle, the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, St. David's Hall, Cardiff, and the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum, Birkenhead. |
